The full art. Click through for a better view. I was lucky with this one. The day I mailed it to Wizards, I put a coat of varnish on it. Turns out, some red oxide in the lower right hadn't dried, and the varnish washed it away, spreading it all over the canvas. It didn't affect the look of the piece and I was quite happy with the texture it created. A rare happy accident.

NICE! I'll never understand how folks like yourself seem to get such smooth painting surfaces. Mine are all bumpy. Not intentional impasto or anything cool, just kind of cruddy looking. The images come together, but it just doesn't feel as polished in person. At least I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteEither way, I really dig it.
Thanks! I use Yes! brand canvas, which is very fine and very cheap. Jerry's Artarama is the only place I've found it though.
ReplyDeleteI put one coat of gesso over it, let it dry, then sand it and wipe off all the gesso dust.
It gets me a surface that is smooth and also absorbs well.
